Annual brainwashing exercise!

Failure to label GMOs constitutes criminal negligence!

Given the fact that no human safety study has ever been conducted and that the scientifically nonsensical "substantial equivalence" concept was coined by one of Monsanto's lawyers without any scientific evidence whatsoever, unleashing toxic GMOs into our environment and food chain renders us all to guinea pigs of multinational biotech companies and thus constitutes human experimentation which is prohibited and in violation of the Helsinki Declaration. This government has violated and keeps violating our constitutional rights to a healthy environment and healthy food, the right of informed choice and consent and participation in decision-making processes relating to this contentious issue, the right to information and above all the individual's human right to bodily integrity, the latter being the most significant provision of the Nuremberg Code, which sets forth the legal requirements for human experimentation, i.e. " voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential". Likewise, the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares bodily integrity central to both human rights and human dignity and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights unmistakably declares that "no one shall be subjected without his free consent to medical or scientific experimentation". By deliberately ignoring the precautionary principle enshrined in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, to which South Africa is signatory, and refusing to implement mandatory labeling of GM products, this government allows its citizens to be used as guinea pigs of multinational biotech companies, sacrificing the nation's health for corporate greed. Please tell the decision-makers in no uncertain terms that we, like the rest of the world, DEMAND mandatory labelling of GMOs, failing which we will charge them with criminal negligence and willful intent to do grievous bodily harm!
